Selma Blair, beloved Legally Blonde actress, has opened up about how her 14-year-old son, Arthur Saint Bleick, “takes great care” of her during moments when she is especially vulnerable. Speaking at the 2025 Forbes Power Women’s Summit, Blair described Arthur as “brave and wonderful,” praising his emotional support as she manages multiple sclerosis (MS) and motherhood as a single parent.
Blair was diagnosed with MS in 2018 and has since become vocal about the challenges, especially fatigue, that come with the illness. She shared that being a single mom while dealing with the symptoms often means pushing through two jobs, caregiving and acting, and relying on the support Arthur gives her.
Fighting MS While Motherhood: The Daily Reality
Among the most difficult symptoms for Blair has been persistent fatigue, a common MS symptom, which can make everyday parenting tasks daunting. She admitted that there were many times she didn’t even know she was afflicted by the disease until much later, saying the fatigue was “always the main issue.”
Blair described learning coping strategies by seeking advice from others who manage similar health challenges, finding small ways to balance self-care, work, and motherhood. She emphasized that her disease “isn’t a tragedy,” and that she endeavors to live in a way that sets a positive example for Arthur, highlighting resilience, openness, and compassion.

Arthur: More Mature Than His Years
Despite his age, Arthur has often shown a level of maturity and compassion beyond a typical 14-year-old. Blair said, “you would think he’s 17,” based on how he behaves. Arthur not only supports his mother emotionally but steps in during difficult times, helping Blair when she needs care or assistance.

Some of their most heartwarming moments include Arthur appreciating her kindness, humor, and thoughtful parenting. Blair recounted how Arthur loves that she is “kind and liking” (not too loving), and even enjoys moments like getting in “Call of Duty points” from her, small but meaningful threads in their bond.
Co-Parenting and Support System
Blair shares Arthur with her ex-boyfriend, fashion designer Jason Bleick. The two maintain an amicable co-parenting arrangement which, Blair says, has become particularly important since her MS diagnosis. Their flexibility and shared support for Arthur have helped Blair cope with the demands of illness and parenting.
She also spoke of having to find tips and “ask for advice for everything,” especially when she was less aware of her MS symptoms. Over time, these connections with others living with MS, or caring for someone who is, have provided community support.
The Message of Hope and Representation
Blair’s public discussion of her health and motherhood serves dual purpose: raising awareness for MS, and destigmatizing illness. She stresses that although her disease presents difficulties, it does not define her, and that her life, including her relationship with Arthur, is full of love, learning, and laughter.
For those watching, Blair hopes her story provides a template of strength: showing that vulnerability and care are components of courage, that illness need not be hidden, and that children can be powerful sources of inspiration and support.
