Attorney General Pam Bondi confirmed that Dunn was fired from the DOJ today. He faces one count of assaulting, resisting, or impeding certain officers and employees of the United States. Dunn made his first court appearance before federal Magistrate Judge G. Michael Harvey and was released on his own recognizance.
“If you touch any law enforcement officer, we will come after you,” Bondi wrote on the social media platform X. “I just learned that this defendant worked at the Department of Justice — NO LONGER. Not only is he FIRED, he has been charged with a felony. You will NOT work in this administration while disrespecting our government and law enforcement.”

U.S. Attorney Pirro emphasized the seriousness of the alleged crime: “Let me be clear, if you lay a hand on a law enforcement officer, be certain we will come after you with the full weight of the law. This alleged assault is no joke – it’s a serious crime, and those who think otherwise will learn just how gravely mistaken they are.”
According to court documents, the incident occurred Sunday, Aug. 10, at around 11 p.m. along the 2000 block of 14th Street NW in Washington, D.C. Metro Transit Police and U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers were on patrol when Dunn allegedly approached one officer, pointed a finger at him, and shouted, “F— you! You f—ing fascists! Why are you here? I don’t want you in my city!”
Moments later, Dunn reportedly threw a sub-style sandwich at the officer, striking him in the chest. An Instagram video recorded by a bystander appears to show the confrontation. Dunn attempted to flee on foot but was apprehended. While being processed at the Metropolitan Police Department’s Third District, he reportedly admitted, “I did it. I threw a sandwich.”
The case is under investigation by the Metropolitan Police Department and is being prosecuted by the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Columbia. If convicted, Dunn could face prison time for the felony assault charge.
