Actor Sean Astin, known for iconic roles in The Goonies and The Lord of the Rings, has been elected as the National President of SAG-AFTRA. The vote took place recently, and Astin secured the position with over 79% of the vote, totaling 16,143 votes, decisively defeating his opponent.

He assumes leadership following Fran Drescher, taking on a two-year term as the head of the union representing some 160,000 actors, media professionals, and voice artists.
