    As part of its commitment to bringing tax services closer to the people, the South African Revenue Service (SARS) has announced the scheduled deployment of its Mobile Tax Units (MTUs) across the Eastern Cape, KwaZulu-Natal, and Mpumalanga provinces from July to October 2025.

    These mobile offices are designed to reach underserved and remote communities, providing essential tax assistance such as taxpayer registration, filing support, submission of documents, and general tax education.



    The MTUs play a key role in enhancing accessibility and voluntary compliance during the 2025 tax season, especially for individuals who may not have easy access to SARS branches.

    What Services Will Be Provided?

    SARS Mobile Tax Units offer almost the same services as regular branches, including:

    • Assistance with ITR12 income tax returns (for employees, freelancers, or provisional taxpayers)

    • Updating personal details such as contact information, banking details, or addresses

    • Help registering for eFiling or the SARS MobiApp

    • Assistance with SARS letters or audit queries

    • Auto-assessment resolution for those flagged by the system

    • Support for provisional taxpayers, especially small businesses or self-employed individuals

    What you need to register as a taxpayer

    •  Certified copy of your Identity
    •    Document/Passport/Driver’s
    •    Licence
    •  Original Bank Statement
    •    (stamped by the bank)
    •  Original Proof of Address

    What you need to submit an Income Tax Return

    • IRP5/IT3(a) certificates
    • IT3(b) certificates in respect of Investment Income
    • Medical Aid certificates and receipts as confirmation of payment
    • Retirement Annuity Fund certificates
    • Travel logbook (receipt of a travel allowance)
    • Any other documentation relating to income received or deductions you want to claim
    • Proof of Identification (identity document/passport/driver’s licence)
    • If married in community of property – spouse’s identity number
