SARS shares key updates for Limpopo, Western Cape, Free State, Northern Cape communities

SARS Mobile Tax Units take tax services to communities across four provinces—July to October 2025
As South Africa enters the 2025 tax season, the South African Revenue Service (SARS) has once again deployed its Mobile Tax Units (MTUs) to bring essential tax services closer to citizens in remote and underserved areas.
These mobile pop-up offices, which operate like traveling SARS branches, will provide tax assistance from July through October 2025 across multiple provinces including Limpopo, Western Cape, Free State, and Northern Cape.
What Are SARS Mobile Tax Units?
Mobile Tax Units are SARS-branded vans or temporary stations set up in community centres, libraries, or local government premises. Their mission is simple: to reach taxpayers who live far from permanent SARS branches or who lack access to the internet. The MTUs enable people to file returns, register for tax, resolve disputes, update personal information, and receive advice from SARS staff.
These units are especially valuable during peak tax season when branch queues are long and eFiling platforms may become congested. They also help bridge the digital divide for those without access to smartphones, laptops, or steady network coverage—ensuring that no one is excluded from participating in the national tax system.
Where Will They Be?
Limpopo – July 2025
SARS has confirmed that its mobile units will tour various towns across Limpopo throughout July. The visits typically last two to three days in each location and are hosted at prominent community landmarks.

Western Cape, Free State & Northern Cape – July to October 2025
Taxpayers in towns throughout these provinces will be served from July to October. This wider window allows SARS to rotate through more rural communities and accommodate those with outstanding tax matters. Based on past deployments, MTUs are expected to visit areas such as:
-
Western Cape: Worcester, George, Beaufort West, Vredenburg, and Oudtshoorn
-
Free State: QwaQwa, Bethlehem, Harrismith, and Phuthaditjhaba
-
Northern Cape: Upington, Springbok, De Aar, and Kuruman
Each visit is expected to run from 08:30 to 14:30, with possible breaks for lunch and setup. Check the full details here.

Why This Matters
For millions of South Africans, especially in rural and semi-urban areas, traveling to a SARS branch can be time-consuming, expensive, or even impossible. The Mobile Tax Units reduce these barriers by ensuring that everyone has access to professional support during tax season. It’s not only about filing on time—it’s about empowering citizens to remain compliant, avoid penalties, and understand their rights and responsibilities.
This initiative also speaks to SARS’s broader mission of tax inclusivity, digital innovation, and improving voluntary compliance by “meeting taxpayers where they are.”
