Taxpayers to experience service disruption as SARS upgrades digital platforms

SARS upgrades digital platforms to enhance service delivery – expect brief disruptions on 15 July
In a continued effort to modernise its operations and provide a seamless digital experience for taxpayers and traders, the South African Revenue Service (SARS) has announced a scheduled upgrade to its digital platforms set to take place on Tuesday, 15 July 2025, from 22:00 to 23:00.
According to SARS, the scheduled upgrade is part of ongoing efforts to align with its Vision 2024 of becoming a “smart, modern SARS with unquestionable integrity that is trusted and admired.” Central to achieving this vision is the enhancement of its technology infrastructure to ensure high levels of system availability, robustness, and security.
SARS emphasised that its digital platforms—including eFiling, Tax, and Customs services—play a pivotal role in simplifying tax compliance and building public trust and confidence. To maintain optimal functionality, the organisation conducts regular system upgrades, enhancements, and maintenance.
“While the upgrades are underway, users may experience intermittent service interruptions,” SARS noted in a statement. The agency urged taxpayers and traders to plan their online interactions accordingly to avoid disruptions.
The upgrade reaffirms SARS’s strategic objective to provide streamlined and secure online services, supporting the broader goal of fostering transparency and efficiency in tax administration.
