Niger Women in Media Summit

The second edition of the Niger Women in Media Summit has come and gone but the rich insights gained from the event will remain evergreen for participants for years to come.

This year’s edition tagged “Empowering Women Journalists for Inclusive Reporting and Leadership” held from October 18 to 19 at the IBB Pen House in Minna, Niger State.

In her welcome address, Justina Asishana, the convener and coordinator of Media Mentors Network, said the summit became imperative to promote women inclusion in the media and leadership.

“This summit is not merely an event; it is a testament to the urgency and importance of advancing women in journalism and the media, particularly in leadership positions,” she said.

The event, supported by CrispNG, was packed with several life-changing sessions, including the keynote address by Ms. Aisha Wakaso, Special Adviser to the Niger State Governor on Print Media.

Key activities from the summit include workshops on leadership skills for women journalists as well as self-care and well-being for women journalists.

There was a panel discussion with the topic “From Newsrooms to Boardrooms: Navigating Leadership as a Woman in Media” led by CEO/Founder, Elina Media, Mrs Celine Alkali Moses; and Assistant Director of News at NTA Minna, Mrs Fatima Aliyu.
