Ozoro incident: Delta police make key arrests, send message to Delta residents
The Delta State Police Command has launched a full-scale investigation into the disturbing assault incident in Ozoro, confirming the arrest of a community leader and several suspects linked to the viral videos that sparked nationwide outrage.
In a statement issued on March 20, the police said they were deeply concerned by footage circulating online showing the alleged sexual assault and harassment of young women in the Oramudu area of Ozoro, located in Isoko North Local Government Area of Delta State.
Police Condemn “Inhumane” Acts
Reacting to the development, the Commissioner of Police, Aina Adesola, strongly condemned the incident, describing the acts as criminal and a gross violation of human rights.
According to the police, the disturbing scenes reportedly occurred during a local event, raising serious concerns about public safety and accountability within the community.
Authorities stressed that no cultural or social gathering can justify acts of sexual violence, adding that such behaviour will be met with the full weight of the law.
Key Suspects Arrested, Including Community Head
As part of the ongoing crackdown, police confirmed the arrest of the alleged chief organiser of the event, identified as Chief Omorede Sunday, along with four other suspects.
In addition, law enforcement authorities disclosed that another community leader from the Oramudu quarters has also been taken into custody, bringing the number of arrests to at least six.
The suspects are currently being investigated for their alleged roles in the incident.
Case Transferred to State CID
To ensure a thorough and transparent investigation, CP Adesola has directed that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID).
Police say specialised tactical and investigative teams have already been deployed with clear instructions to identify and apprehend all individuals connected to the assault.
The command reiterated its commitment to ensuring that all perpetrators are prosecuted in accordance with Nigerian law.
Appeal for Witnesses to Come Forward

OZORO INCIDENT: CP AINA ADESOLA CONDEMN ALLEGED SEXUAL ASSAULTS, ORDER FULL-SCALE INVESTIGATION, POLICE ARREST MORE ORAMUDU COMMUNITY HEAD AND FIVE OTHERS
The Delta State Police Command has received with grave concern disturbing videos that emanated from Oramudu quarters, Ozoro which captures sexual assault and molestation of young women in Ozoro, Isoko North Local Government Area, during a purported local event.
The Command unequivocally condemns such acts in their entirety. Acts of sexual violence are criminal, inhumane, and constitute a grave violation of the fundamental rights and dignity of victims. The Commissioner of Police upon receipt of the disturbing videos ordered an immediate investigation into the incident. The Chief organiser, one chief Omorede Sunday and four other suspects have been arrested.
Consequently, the Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command, CP Aina Adesola, has ordered that the case be immediately transferred to State criminal department (SCID) for further investigation. Tactical and investigative assets have been duly deployed with a clear mandate to identify, apprehend, and ensure the prosecution of all individuals found culpable.
The Command urges members of the public, particularly victims and witnesses, to come forward with any information that will aid ongoing investigations. All information provided will be treated with strict confidentiality and the highest level of professionalism.
The Commissioner of Police further appeals to residents of the State to remain calm, vigilant, and law-abiding, while assuring that the Command remains fully committed to protecting lives, safeguarding the rights of all citizens, and maintaining public order.
