Ogun LGA begins clearance of dirt after CrispNG’s investigation
Traders at the Oba Adesola market in Ogun state, popularly called Lusada market, have now heaved a sigh of relief as the illegal dump site is now being cleared.
The clearance started on Saturday, 13th January, 2024. CrispNG observed bulldozers digging pit and moving wastes out of the area.
For years, residents of Lusada community in Ado-odo/Ota local government area of Ogun state, especially traders, have had to deal with economic frustration, excessive taxations, health threats, air pollution and toxic climate intensifiers stemming from indiscriminate waste disposal.
However, in October, CrispNG’s reporter uncovered the situation, leading to government intervention.
The story revealed how residents pay sanitation levy to the local government development area (LCDA) without getting corresponding value.
The development forced traders to pay cart pushers for refuse disposal despite the monthly sanitation levy imposed on them.
The report also documented how the situation made residents vulnerable to diseases.

HELP IN SIGHT
After the report was published, Hon.Wasiu Ramon, vice-chairman of transition committee Ado-Odo Ota LGA, told our reporter that the clearance of the refuse would begin in January.
About two months after the investigation, traders in the area have now found consolation and relief as their nightmare is now being expelled.
Although other parts of the market are yet to experience this positive change, there is hope that succour will come their way soon.
