Nigerian passport fees increase — here’s what to know

Starting September 1, 2025, Nigerians applying for new passports within the country will pay significantly higher fees as the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) revises its pricing structure.
According to a statement released by NIS spokesperson ACI AS Akinlabi, the review applies strictly to applications made in Nigeria and is aimed at sustaining the security features and overall quality of the Nigerian passport.
Under the new rates:
The 32-page, 5-year validity passport will now cost ₦100,000.
The 64-page, 10-year validity passport will now cost ₦200,000.
However, Nigerians applying from abroad will not be affected by the increase. Fees for diaspora applicants remain at $150 for the 32-page option and $230 for the 64-page option.
The Immigration Service emphasized that the adjustment is designed to balance accessibility with service quality while maintaining the integrity of Nigeria’s international passport.
