TVK meeting Salem death

A 37-year-old attendee has died after collapsing at a political function organised by Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) in the Salem district of Tamil Nadu on Friday.

The event was addressed by the party’s founder and actor-turned-politician C. Joseph Vijay.

Victim Had Lived in Salem for Two Decades

The deceased, identified as S. Suraj, was originally from Maharashtra but had been residing in Salem for about 20 years. He lived with his family in Arasamarathu Kattur near Kondalampatti and worked at a silver anklet manufacturing unit.

According to police, Suraj attended the TVK functionaries’ meeting in Seelanaickenpatti alongside local party members.

Collapse After Waiting in Heat

Witnesses said the crowd had been waiting in intense heat for more than two hours when Suraj suddenly fainted inside the venue. Party functionaries immediately placed him in an ambulance stationed at the location and rushed him to a nearby private hospital.

However, he died before reaching the hospital.

Police later revealed that Suraj had undergone heart surgery about one-and-a-half years ago, which may be relevant to the investigation.

Police Investigation Underway

The Annathanapatti Police Station has begun an inquiry into the incident. Officers said a post-mortem examination will be conducted after a formal complaint is filed by family members.

Suraj is survived by his wife Priya (35), an 11-year-old daughter and a seven-year-old son.

Authorities are expected to determine whether medical complications, heat exposure or other factors contributed to the death.
