A tragic accident struck the heart of Lisbon on Wednesday when the city’s historic Gloria funicular railway derailed, killing at least 15 people and injuring 18 others.

The funicular, a well-known attraction that carries thousands of visitors and residents daily, was operating along its steep route when the incident occurred. Emergency services rushed to the scene, where rescue teams worked late into the night to assist victims and clear the wreckage.

Authorities confirmed that among the deceased were foreign nationals, though the identities and nationalities of the victims have not yet been released.
