‘Lego Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight’ announced… release date, other details you should know

Lego Batman returns in Legacy of the Dark Knight, an open-world Gotham adventure coming in 2026.

Batman is returning to the Lego universe in a big way. At Gamescom Opening Night Live, Warner Bros. Games and TT Games unveiled Lego Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight—the Caped Crusader’s first solo Lego title for consoles in more than a decade. Scheduled for release in 2026, the game will launch on Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store.

The new adventure gives players an open-world Gotham to explore, complete with a drivable Batmobile. Early footage showed gameplay inspired by the Arkham series, featuring fluid combat, stealth takedowns, and dramatic set pieces. Unlike the tongue-in-cheek Lego Batman film, the trailer leaned toward a darker, more cinematic tone—though it still had fun parodying iconic movie moments, such as the Penguin chase from The Batman and Bane’s “darkness” speech from The Dark Knight Rises. Speaking of Bane, he’ll be voiced by comedian Matt Berry.

The story begins with a young Bruce Wayne training under the League of Shadows before forming alliances with familiar faces: Jim Gordon, Robin, Nightwing, Batgirl, Catwoman, and Talia al Ghul. Of course, Batman’s rogues’ gallery isn’t sitting this one out. Players will square off against The Joker, The Penguin, Poison Ivy, Ra’s al Ghul, and Bane, among others.

TT Games, known for Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga and over 20 other Lego titles released between 2005 and 2022, is promising a game that celebrates Batman’s entire legacy. “Whether he’s the wrathful Dark Knight, the brilliant detective, or the unlikely father of the ‘Batfam,’ Batman has constantly evolved,” said Jim Lee, DC’s Chief Creative Officer. “This game brings together nearly every facet of his legacy… crafted with deep respect for the mythos.”

For TT Games, Legacy of the Dark Knight represents a new chapter. The studio once dominated the Lego gaming scene with annual releases, but the landscape has since shifted, with other developers experimenting with Lego experiences—including its integration into Fortnite. Fans have also waited several years since the studio’s last major title, Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga in 2022.

Batman has appeared in Lego games before, including Lego Batman 3: Beyond Gotham (2014) and Lego DC Super-Villains (2018), but this is his first headline role since then. With an expansive Gotham to roam, beloved allies to fight alongside, and villains to outwit, Lego Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight promises both nostalgia and something new for fans when it arrives in 2026.
