Former Chicago Bears quarterback Jay Cutler is set to serve jail time and has lost his driving privileges in Tennessee after pleading guilty to a 2024 DUI charge.
The 42-year-old appeared before a Williamson County judge on Tuesday, August 26, where he admitted to driving under the influence, according to multiple reports. His sentence includes a $350 fine, four days in jail beginning September 29, a one-year term of unsupervised probation, and mandatory attendance at a DUI safety class. In addition, his Tennessee driver’s license has been revoked.
Cutler’s arrest dates back to October 17, 2024, when police in downtown Franklin, Tenn., alleged that he rear-ended another vehicle while driving his white Dodge Ram truck. Officers reported that he smelled strongly of alcohol, had bloodshot eyes, and slurred his speech. Court records indicate that Cutler refused to complete a field sobriety test, prompting officers to obtain a warrant for a blood sample at a nearby hospital.
Authorities also stated that two firearms were found in his vehicle, including a loaded handgun. While the weapons possession charge was dropped under the plea deal, Cutler still faced multiple counts at the time of his arrest, including DUI, failure to exercise due care, and violation of implied consent laws.
Additional documents alleged that Cutler attempted to avoid legal consequences by offering the other driver $2,000 if they chose not to contact law enforcement. He was released the same day of his arrest after posting a $5,000 bond.
The NFL veteran, who spent the majority of his 12-season career with the Bears after being traded from the Denver Broncos, has not publicly commented on the case. PEOPLE reports that his legal representatives have been contacted for a statement.
