JAMB fixes date for mop-up UTME… here’s all to know

JAMB fixes June 28 for mop-up UTME exam nationwide.

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has officially announced Friday, June 28, 2025, as the date for the mop-up examination for candidates who were unable to sit for the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) due to technical glitches and other verified issues.

This development was disclosed in a statement released by JAMB’s spokesperson, Dr Fabian Benjamin, on Sunday. According to the examination body, the mop-up exam is designed to provide a fair opportunity for candidates whose biometric data could not be captured or who experienced system failures at their assigned centres during the main UTME exercise.

Categories of Eligible Candidates

JAMB clarified that only specific groups of candidates are eligible for the mop-up UTME. These include:

  • Candidates who were verified at their examination centres but could not sit the exam due to technical errors.
  • Candidates whose centres experienced disruptions such as power failure, system shutdowns, or server issues.
  • Candidates who completed registration but did not receive a notification for their exam or could not be scheduled due to logistical constraints.

The board stressed that this special opportunity is not open to candidates who were absent without valid reasons or those involved in exam malpractice.

JAMB Reaffirms Commitment to Fairness

Reiterating its commitment to transparency and equity, JAMB stated that the mop-up exam is part of efforts to ensure that no genuinely affected candidate is denied the chance to gain admission into higher institutions for the 2025/2026 academic session.

Candidates eligible for the mop-up UTME are advised to check their profiles and email inboxes for notifications regarding their exam venues, date, and time.

Warning Against Fraudsters

JAMB also warned candidates to be cautious of fraudulent individuals or tutorial centres claiming to have influence over the mop-up exam process. “All legitimate information will be communicated directly to candidates through official JAMB channels,” the statement emphasised.

The board further reminded candidates that no special treatment will be given outside the stated categories, and no payments are required for the mop-up exercise.

What Candidates Should Do

Eligible candidates are urged to:

  • Log into their JAMB profile regularly.
  • Reprint their examination slip as soon as it becomes available.
  • Report to their designated centres early on the scheduled date.

JAMB also encouraged candidates to prepare adequately, as the mop-up exam will be computer-based and follow the same standards as the main UTME.
