Inside Bryan Kohberger’s empty apartment: Shocking photos reveal what the convicted killer left behind

Bryan Kohberger

Newly released images from Idaho State Police are shedding light on the quiet life Bryan Kohberger appeared to lead in Pullman before his arrest for the murders of four University of Idaho students.

The collection of nearly 700 photographs, unveiled Friday, captures the inside of Kohberger’s apartment near Washington State University, where he was enrolled as a criminology graduate student at the time of the killings in November 2022.

The rooms, bare and utilitarian, revealed few personal belongings. Investigators documented a black glove, a desktop computer tower, and stacks of textbooks, along with graded assignments from his teaching assistant role. The kitchen showed an ordinary fridge stocked with food, while closets and other spaces appeared largely empty.

Notably, prosecutors have never indicated that any material evidence linking Kohberger directly to the victims—Kaylee Goncalves, Ethan Chapin, Madison Mogen, and Xana Kernodle—was recovered from his Pullman residence.

Kohberger left the area in mid-December, embarking on a cross-country trip with his father to Pennsylvania. It was there that investigators retrieved DNA from trash at his family’s home, ultimately tying him to the knife sheath discovered at the murder scene.

The photo release also includes images of his cleared-out office space at WSU, where he had been informed he would not continue as a teaching assistant in the upcoming semester. Authorities say the public release of documents, images, and footage will continue as the case proceeds and Kohberger remains in prison.
