How lack of respect can hinder your growth in corporate environment
If you don’t have respect, there are some things you should not expect. Especially in corporate environments. Corporate environments are an echelon in the shape of a pyramid. Those at the top promote those at the bottom. So, if you enter a corporate environment with only your qualifications and skills but no emotional intelligence, you will only go so far, while your frustration will go further until it turns to desperation. Your ego will get in the way of you fulfilling your potential. People less academically intelligent than you will rise above you if they have more emotional intelligence.
Greeting your boss, ‘good morning’, is not the same as greeting them, ‘good morning, sir’. The addition of ‘sir’ to you may seem like sycophancy, because you come from a culture and parents without respect. But, it is, in actual fact, respect or diplomacy. You can’t treat everybody the same, because everyone will not also treat you the same.

Your colleagues cannot promote you. Your boss can. Even God loves to be praised. And He is the ultimate Promoter. That is why we respect Him more than angels, who are also spirit beings. Now, if God inhabits the praises of His people, how much more your boss? He is made in God’s Image.
Even if you did not learn respect at home, repent yourself, or you will stagnate in a corporate, military, or political environment. Expecting to go somewhere and have the culture there change to the culture in which you were brought up at home is immaturity. Even a king must kneel so the prophet can anoint him. Every environment involving an echelon will not be conducive to those who lack respect as a cultural value.
