Gunmen shoot pregnant woman in Bayelsa

A pregnant woman, identified as Gulu, has been reportedly shot in the stomach by gunmen suspected to be pirates that attacked a Yenagoa bound passenger boat in the coastal area of Koluama in Southern Ijaw local government area of Bayelsa State.
The woman was rushed to a medical facility in Koluama II Community in the council area, alongside the young man that was equally shot in the attack.
Reports have it that the passenger boat was travelling from Koluama to Yenagoa when the pirates struck between Koluama I and II axis of the waterways in the early hours of the day.
The Chairman of the Bayelsa State chapter of the Nigerian Maritime Workers’ Union, Lloyd Sese, confirming the incident, affirmed that the pirates also went away with the 200 horsepower engine belonging to one Sunday Leghemo, as well as the belongings of the passengers.
He also revealed that pirates in the early hours of the day blocked the Akassa route of the waterways thereby preventing passengers from travelling to Yenagoa.
