FG sets 16 as minimum admission age for tertiary institutions

JAMB fixes June 28 for mop-up UTME exam nationwide.
The Federal Government of Nigeria has officially set the minimum age for admission into higher institutions at sixteen (16) years.
This announcement was made by the Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, during the opening of the 2025 Policy Meeting of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) held in Abuja on Tuesday.
Dr. Alausa emphasized that the age requirement is non-negotiable and must be strictly followed by all institutions. He also issued a stern warning against the practice of processing admissions outside the Central Admission Processing System (CAPS), stating that such actions are illegal and offenders would be prosecuted accordingly.
The Minister cautioned heads of institutions involved in admission malpractice, reiterating the government’s commitment to transparency, integrity, and due process in the admission system.
