Fans react to Champions League draw: Who goes through?
By Israel Igiri
As the road to Kyiv intensifies, eight teams will battle one another in the quarter-finals of the Champions League in a bid to make it to the last four and subsequently, claim the ultimate prize.
Following Friday’s draw, Liverpool have a date with Manchester City. With the clubs having played twice this season, City winning the first leg 5-0 when they met in September and the Reds winning 4-3 at Anfield in January, the tie promises to be breathtaking and exciting.
The draw sees a repeat of the 2016/2017 final between defending champions Real Madrid and Juventus. The Italian team will seek revenge upon the Los Blancos for the 4-1 defeat they suffered in last season’s final in Cardiff.
Run away La Liga leaders, Barcelona will do battle with AS Roma as they hope to keep their quest of winning a third unprecedented treble intact.
German champions Bayern Munchen slug it with Spanish side Sevilla, who ousted Manchester United from the competition with a famous win at Old Trafford on Tuesday night.
As the countdown to these mouth-watering ties begins, let’s see what the fans have to say. Who will the four semi-finalists be?
ANIETIE UDO has this to say
These games are going to be very tight and tense. Definitely hard nuts to crack especially the ties involving Liverpool vs Manchester City and Juventus vs Real Madrid. But I believe Barcelona, Madrid, Bayern Munich and City will all go through to the semi-finals.
For ALFRED ORTESE,
It is going to be Manchester City, Barcelona, Bayern Munich and Real Madrid. These four teams would be too strong for their opponents.
GODSTIME ENWONODE also sees the quadruple of City, Barca, Madrid and Bayern.
Real Madrid, Manchester City, Bayern Munich and Barcelona will be unstoppable in the quarter-finals. Although Madrid and City have tougher opponents, they will see off Juventus and Liverpool respectively. Meanwhile, the great experience of Barcelona and Bayern will take them through to the last four.
EZE UCHE airs her own view on the issue as she said
I’m looking forward to these ties because they would be entertaining and interesting to watch. Although Juventus will hope to take their own pound of flesh against Madrid, I think Zidane’s men will still defeat them. Barcelona would have no problem seeing off Roma. Bayern Munich will slightly get the better of Sevilla. And as for the English encounter, City will win even though it would be very tough.
OSMOND ANYAKA’s prediction has a slight difference as he said
The tie between Liverpool and Man City will be a very tough one because both teams play in the same league. From what we have seen this season, if there is a team that can beat City, it is Liverpool. And so, I am rooting for Liverpool in this encounter.
In the other ties, Barcelona, Real Madrid and Bayern Munich would reign supreme.
CHUKWUMA also thinks otherwise
I see Juventus eliminating Real Madrid this time around. History favours them going into this tie as Madrid have been eliminated in all four of their two-legged knockout ties against Juventus. For the other games, Barcelona, Manchester City and Bayern Munich will go through.
Will the fans get their predictions right? Time will certainly tell as the drama gets more intense in the ever exciting and money-spinning UEFA Champions League.
