Dimeji Ajibola, the director of the popular Nollywood series Shanty Town, passed away on November 3rd after battling an undisclosed illness.

His colleague, Samuel Olatunji, confirmed the news in a statement to Tribune Online. Ajibola’s death has created a significant void in the Nollywood community, prompting an outpouring of grief and sympathy from fans, friends, and fellow filmmakers.



Nollywood actor Bolanle Ninalowo expressed his sadness on Instagram, writing, “I love you brother and I will miss you @dimejiajibola. May God heal your family & loved ones. Till we meet again didi vox. Rest on CHAMP.”

Ajibola’s career in film and advertising spanned over 18 years, during which he became known for his innovative storytelling and technical expertise. He began as an animator, gaining recognition for his award-winning television advertisements, including projects for major brands like MTN and Coca-Cola.

An alumnus of the New York Film Academy and Animation Mentor Academy, Abimbola made his mark in Nollywood with his first feature film, Hoodrush, released in 2012. The film, celebrated as Nigeria’s first urban musical, received multiple accolades, including Best Movie at the Green Me International Film Festival in Germany and awards for Best Actor and Best Soundtrack at the Nollywood Movies Awards.

As the CEO and Technical Director of Flipsyde Studios Ltd., Abimbola was recognised for his excellence and innovation in film, animation, and visual effects. His diverse educational background in filmmaking, cinematography, and visual effects solidified his status as a leading figure in the industry.



Dimeji Ajibola’s contributions to Nollywood will be remembered, and his legacy will continue to inspire future filmmakers.
