Daniel Bwala, a former spokesperson for Atiku Abubakar and a vocal critic of President Bola Tinubu, has been appointed as the Special Adviser on Media and Public Communications.

The announcement has drawn widespread attention, not just for his new role but also for his dramatic political shift from the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).



Here are 10 key things to know about the Daniel Bwala:

1. Born and raised in Borno State, Bwala completed his primary to tertiary education there

2. The seasoned lawyer and public affairs analyst earned his law degree from the University of Maiduguri in 2006 and completed his Nigerian Law School training in Bwari, Abuja.



3. He obtained a Master of Laws (LLM) in International Business Law from Coventry University in 2014 and is a member of the English Bar by the Honourable Society of Lincoln’s Inn.

4. Bwala started his legal career with the prestigious law firm J-K Gadzama & Partners LLP, where he worked for five years before establishing his own firm, Bwala & Co., in 2013. His expertise in international negotiation earned him roles as Nigeria’s representative in global competitions.

5. Bwala taught as an adjunct lecturer at the Nigerian Law School, Abuja between 2012-2015, where he taught corporate law.

6. He also served as the a Special Adviser to the Deputy Senate President on Legal and Constitutional matters

7. Bwala has held significant political roles. In 2022, he served as the spokesperson for Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2023 election.

8. He joined the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in July 2024.

9. Bwala, succeeded Ajuri Ngelale, who took an indefinite leave since September.

10. He is married to Dr. Diana Bwala, a veterinary doctor and lecturer at the University of Maiduguri. The couple has two children, Faith and Ethan.
