Champions League: Marcos Llorente’s late goals shatter Liverpool’s European dreams
Marco Llorente’s late goals earned Atletico Madrid a well-fought 3-2 victory over Liverpool in the second leg of the UEFA Champions League knock out stage on Wednesday night.
With 1-0 victory in the first leg, Diego Simeon’s side came to Anfield seeking a draw or win to secure their passage to the next stage of the competition.
Their dream was however, threatened with goals from Georginio Wijnaldum and Roberto Firmino earlier putting the Reds ahead until Llorente scored two goals in the extra time followed by another from Morata to dent Liverpool’s hopes of advancing to the stage of the competition.
The 3-2 defeat means Atletico Madrid advanced to the quarter-finals stage of the competition on 4-2 aggregate.
