Cape Town mother’s R30 million Lotto win brings “peace of mind”

In a heartwarming twist of fate, a retired mother from Cape Town has become one of the city’s newest multimillionaires after winning a staggering R30,211,138.30 in the Lotto Plus 1 jackpot draw.

The woman, who chose to remain anonymous, purchased her winning ticket using a manual selection – steering clear of the popular quick-pick option – and spent just R80 at a local retail store. The draw, held on Saturday, saw her match all six numbers, securing the life-changing prize.

Still reeling from the news, the winner described the moment she realised she had won as surreal.

“I still can’t believe it. I keep looking at the numbers and thinking: Is this really happening to me?”

Having retired in 2024, she has continued to financially support her two daughters. But one of her greatest concerns has been her youngest daughter’s daily commute to work using e-hailing services.

“She doesn’t have a car and I worry about her safety every single day,” the new millionaire shared. “The very first thing I’m doing is buying her a car. That will give me peace of mind.”

But beyond helping her family, the thoughtful mother has no intention of extravagant spending. Her priority is to invest the majority of her winnings wisely, ensuring long-term stability and security.

“I want to enjoy my retirement now. No stress, just peace. That’s my dream.”

The National Lottery operator, Ithuba, confirmed the win and praised the winner for her generous and level-headed plans.

Charmaine Mabuza, CEO of Ithuba, said:

“It’s inspiring to see winners use their prizes in ways that truly transform their lives and the lives of their loved ones. This story is a beautiful reminder of the positive change the National Lottery can bring.”

The prize is tax-free, making the full amount available to the winner – a true “retirement blessing” by her own account.

From worry to wealth, this Cape Town mother’s story is a testament to hope, family, and the power of dreams made real.
