Busaosowo Foundation launches SHD Arts Group to amplify youth voices for drug abuse Prevention

Busaosowo Foundation, a youth-led nonprofit organization involved in drug abuse prevention intervention, has announced the launch of the SHD Arts Group dedicated to amplifying youth voices for drug abuse prevention.

The SHD (Spread Hope Not Drugs) Arts Group will deploy the power of art, music, spoken word, drama, and storytelling to empower young people to be at the forefront of drug abuse prevention because they understand their peers and have the power to shape a healthier future.

Speaking at the release of the group’s first spoken word piece on the 2nd of July, 2025, the executive director of Busaosowo Foundation, Busaosowo Bisong, emphasized that: “Art shapes culture and influences young people’s decisions to either engage in drug abuse or not. Through the SHD Arts Group, we are giving young people the tools they need to generate and lead meaningful conversations on drug abuse prevention in ways that resonate with their peers. There is no change without them.”

The intervention aligns with global efforts to address drug abuse among young people, leveraging the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-being) and SDG 4 (Quality Education).

Busaosowo Foundation invites schools, youth-led or youth-focused organizations, artists, and other relevant stakeholders to partner with the SHD Arts Group to shape a drug free future for Nigeria’s youth population.
