Black Myth: Zhong Kui — What to know about Black Myth: Wukong sequel

First Look: Game Science unveils Black Myth: Zhong Kui at Gamescom — the highly anticipated successor to Wukong.
The creators of Black Myth: Wukong are preparing to expand their critically acclaimed series with a new installment—Black Myth: Zhong Kui. The announcement was made during Gamescom in Cologne, Germany, where Game Science unveiled an early teaser that once again blends cinematic visuals with legendary figures from Chinese mythology.
Zhong Kui, the central figure of the upcoming title, is portrayed as a fierce mythological god with a red beard, dark complexion, and luminous eyes. Much like Wukong, he embodies the studio’s ambition to reinterpret classical tales through modern, high-fidelity gaming.
While Game Science admits the project is still in its infancy—describing it as “little more than an empty folder” for now—the studio emphasized its commitment to keeping fans engaged after the massive success of Wukong. That first entry became one of China’s most successful cultural exports, not only dominating the global RPG market but also sparking real-world tourism to the ancient settings depicted in the game.
The company also hinted that Wukong’s saga is not yet complete, with additional content and expansions planned. Though no release window was provided, players can expect the franchise to remain firmly rooted in the action RPG genre that propelled it to international acclaim.

The ripple effect of Black Myth: Wukong has already inspired other Chinese developers to take bold steps into the premium gaming space. Titles like Wuchang: Fallen Feathers, launched in July, reflect this trend by showcasing similarly ambitious visuals and mythological storytelling. Reception, however, has been mixed, highlighting the towering benchmark Game Science has set.
With Black Myth: Zhong Kui, the studio aims to build not just a sequel, but a growing mythology-driven universe that continues to captivate gamers across the globe.
