Baldwin brothers crash ‘whale-sized’ garbage truck blamed for Hamptons wreck

East Hampton, NY—Veteran actor alec baldwin and his brother, stephen baldwin, narrowly escaped injury after a dramatic car crash on montauk highway this Monday, according to photos and the actor’s own account.

The Emmy winner, 67, was reportedly driving his wife hilaria baldwin’s white Range Rover when he was forced to swerve, sending the luxury SUV head-on into a tree on the side of the road. The incident, which occurred during the pouring rain, left the vehicle’s front end utterly destroyed.

A visibly “dishevelled and annoyed” Alec Baldwin was photographed at the crash site making a phone call, standing next to the crumpled wreckage and his brother.

The actor’s explanation: a ‘whale-sized’ menace

Taking to Instagram later in the day, Baldwin addressed the deluge of inquiries with a rambling video confession. He assigned blame for the mishap to a “garbage truck the size of a whale” that he claims cut him off.

“To avoid hitting him, I hit a tree, I hit a big, fat tree and crushed my car – my wife’s car. I crushed my wife’s car. I feel bad about that. But it’s all fine, I’m fine, and my brother’s fine,” he stated.

The crash took place not far from Baldwin’s sprawling east hampton estate, where he has been for the past week serving as co-chair of the hamptons international film festival’s Board Executive Committee.

He was quick to praise the responding law enforcement, giving a specific shout-out to “Officer Gerken” with the East Hampton Police Department for being “as nice as can be.”

From film festival to fender bender

The accident marked a jarring end to the actor’s week of local film commitments. The East End, a recurring setting for Baldwin’s public life—from his decades-long sobriety journey to his struggles to sell his home—once again became the backdrop for personal drama.

Baldwin ended his video update by celebrating the film festival’s success and randomly extending a message of love and pride to his wife, Hilaria, shortly after her elimination from Dancing With The Stars.

The East Hampton Police Department has yet to issue an official statement regarding the incident.
