Another Air India plane suffers technical issue midair, nearly crashed

Air India crash and other top plane accidents in 2025 raise concerns over aviation safety in the world.
An Air India Boeing 787 Dreamliner flight en route from Hong Kong to New Delhi was forced to return to Hong Kong International Airport on Monday due to a mid-air technical issue.
The incident, which occurred just minutes after takeoff, prompted the pilots to initiate a precautionary return and request immediate landing clearance. The aircraft landed safely at around 1 p.m. local time, and no injuries were reported among the passengers or crew.
The incident comes just days after another Air India Boeing 787 crash near Ahmedabad that claimed over 270 lives, intensifying public concern over the safety of the aircraft model. Although the latest event did not result in casualties, aviation authorities and travellers have raised alarm over the frequency of technical glitches affecting Boeing’s 787 fleet.

Air India confirmed the return was a standard safety precaution following the detection of a minor but unresolved technical snag during the flight. In response, the airline said it had initiated a full engineering inspection of the aircraft and arranged alternative travel options for affected passengers. The Hong Kong Airport Authority also verified that the aircraft landed safely and without incident.
This is the fourth air safety-related incident involving a Boeing 787 Dreamliner in less than a week, including emergency landings and flight diversions. Following the crash and subsequent mid-air technical issues, India’s aviation regulators are reportedly planning an emergency audit of all Boeing 787s operated in the country. Boeing, the aircraft manufacturer, is said to be cooperating with ongoing investigations.
The recent spate of events has renewed concerns about maintenance protocols and aircraft reliability, especially on long-haul international routes. Passengers and aviation experts alike are calling for stricter oversight and transparent safety reporting from both airlines and manufacturers to restore public confidence.
