Angela Okorie: All to know as police probe viral video of armed officers escorting actress

Nigeria police to probe armed officers escorting actress Angela Okorie in a viral video
The Nigeria Police Force has launched an investigation into a viral video that shows multiple armed police officers escorting Nollywood actress Angela Okorie. The footage, which surfaced online earlier this week, drew widespread criticism from the public who questioned the use of state security personnel for what appeared to be private celebrity protection.
In the video, Angela Okorie is seen walking confidently while flanked by heavily armed officers, prompting viewers to ask whether the deployment was officially sanctioned or a misuse of public resources. Many Nigerians took to social media to express outrage, accusing the officers of abandoning their constitutional duty to protect the general public in favor of serving high-profile individuals without justification.
Reacting to the public backlash, the Nigeria Police Force Headquarters in Abuja described the scene as “embarrassing and unprofessional.” Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, said the video undermines public trust and the image of the police, especially at a time when the institution is striving to uphold professionalism and restore credibility among citizens.
Adejobi confirmed that the officers involved have been identified and are currently under investigation. He further stated that appropriate disciplinary actions would be taken once the internal review is complete. He emphasized that police escorts for individuals, including celebrities, must follow strict procedures and must be approved through formal channels — anything short of that is considered misconduct.
The Force PRO stressed that police officers must not allow themselves to be used for showmanship, particularly when it damages the reputation of the entire institution. He urged all police personnel to adhere to the ethical standards of service, adding that the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, is committed to holding erring officers accountable.
This is not the first time a video involving police escorts and celebrities has stirred controversy. In recent years, similar incidents have led to investigations and, in some cases, disciplinary action. The Angela Okorie case adds to the growing concern about how state security assets are sometimes diverted for private and often non-essential purposes.
As Nigerians await the outcome of the investigation, the police force has promised to make its findings public. The incident has reignited calls for better oversight and transparency in how police escorts are assigned, especially amid nationwide security challenges.
