Anambra student emerges 2025 UTME top scorer as JAMB unveils best candidates

Meet the Top 10 JAMB Scorers in 2025 — Only One Girl Makes the List

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has released the names of the top ten highest-scoring candidates in the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).

Leading the list is Okeke Chinedu Christian from Anambra State, who scored an outstanding 375 out of 400, the highest in this year’s exam.

JAMB made the list public earlier this week. It shows brilliant performances from students across different parts of the country, with most of them choosing to study engineering courses.

However, only one female student made it into the top ten, drawing attention to the need for more support and encouragement for girls in academics, especially in science and technology fields.

Chinedu, the top scorer, applied to study Mechanical Engineering at the University of Lagos (UNILAG). Close behind him is Ayuba Simon Peter John from Gombe State with a score of 374, also going for Mechanical Engineering at Afe Babalola University.

Three students—Abdulmalik Jimoh (Kwara), Roberts Damiete (Rivers), and Ononugbo Chibueze (Enugu)—tied with scores of 373, each aiming to study engineering-related courses.

The only girl on the list, Olawepo Tunmise Gertrude from Kwara State, also scored 373. She chose Computer Science at UNILAG and is being praised for her excellent performance and for standing out in a male-dominated list.

Other students in the top ten include candidates from Delta, Ogun, and Edo States, with scores between 372 and 373. Their course choices also show a strong interest in engineering and technology.

JAMB has congratulated all the top performers and encouraged other students to keep working hard. The board said it is committed to fair and transparent examination processes.

This year, over 1.9 million candidates sat for the UTME, hoping to secure admission into universities, polytechnics, and colleges across Nigeria. With the results now out, schools will begin the next stage of selecting candidates for admission.
