Lagos announces traffic diversion for Ogudu, Ifako bridge repairs

The Lagos State Government has officially announced the closure of the Ogudu/Ifako Bridge for a total of 110 days to facilitate essential repair works.

According to the Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, the project is scheduled to commence on Saturday, June 28, 2025, and will conclude on Wednesday, October 15, 2025.

The repair works, which were previously postponed, will now proceed in eight carefully planned phases aimed at minimising disruption while addressing the bridge’s critical infrastructure needs.

The repair exercise will cover both directions of the bridge and will involve partial lane closures. Only a 50-meter section before and after each active work zone will be affected during any given phase.

The first to fourth phases will focus on the Ogudu/Ifako Bridge inbound Alapere, spanning from June 28 to August 16. The fifth to eighth phases, targeting the stretch inbound Oworonshoki, will run from August 16 to October 5.

To ease traffic congestion during the partial closures, the government has released diversion plans. For Phase One, motorists from Iyana Oworo are advised to navigate through Gbagada and connect to Anthony to access Ikorodu Road, allowing them smooth passage to their destinations.

During Phase Two, road users from Eko Bridge are advised to connect to Ikorodu Road via Funsho Williams Avenue.

The Lagos State Government assures that officers from the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) will be deployed to strategic points to manage the traffic situation and reduce inconvenience for commuters.

The government urges all motorists to cooperate with traffic officials and adhere to the diversions in place during the course of the repair project.
