Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf received a touching and heartfelt welcome from thousands of his pilgrims upon completing the 2025 Hajj, highlighting his commitment to compassionate and hands-on leadership.
As the appointed Amirul Hajj for Kano State, Governor Yusuf personally joined over 3,345 pilgrims in Mina, not only guiding them through religious rites but also demonstrating deep care for their well-being .
During a surprise visit to the pilgrims’ tent in Mina, Governor Yusuf distributed 250 Saudi Riyals (equivalent to approximately ₦107,500) to each pilgrim, a generous gesture totaling around ₦361.1 million .
His genuine warmth—shaking hands, offering prayers, and mingling among pilgrims—earned him the description “like a father” in many accounts, breaking down the typical barriers between political office and personal connection .
This Hajj was not just a religious event but a testament to dignity and care. Under Governor Yusuf’s leadership, pilgrims were treated to three hot meals daily in Mina and Arafat, with two meals in Makkah. The state government also modernised facilities—ensuring clean sanitation, ready access to mobile clinics, and better logistical coordination with Saudi authorities .
Ahead of departure, Governor Yusuf also released an additional ₦376 million to cover Basic Travel Allowance shortfalls caused by currency fluctuations—ensuring each pilgrim received their full $500 . His personal presence extended beyond symbolic gestures; he actively oversaw the pilgrims’ comfort, everything from inspecting sleeping quarters to coordinating smooth food deliveries. One participant reflected on his impact: “We were treated like people—like guests deserving of respect in a sacred place” .
Upon returning from Hajj, Governor Yusuf was met with a celebratory and emotional reception in Kano. Supporters greeted him as a hero—grateful for a display of empathy that became the hallmark of his spiritual leadership. The governor’s actions on Hajj have set a new standard in pilgrimage governance—where proximity to the people, respect, and honour, not just protocols, define leadership.
